This recent news was rough. Peter Cullen was a hero and seeing how amazing he was as a person outside of his role as Optimus Prime makes his death so much more emotionally heavy, similar to a lot of other celebrities who have passed away recently during this month. To myself and many others he wasn’t just another actor or another celebrity, he was a legend, a character that felt like a real person despite being from a children’s cartoon.
The amount of dedication that he showed towards his role and towards this franchise is simply unforgettable. As a voice actor he was one in a million and throughout the years he spent playing Optimus amongst other characters he became irreplaceable. During my childhood, just hearing his voice was enough to fill me with instantaneous joy and excitement. During the 1980s, he was a character that millions across the world looked up to, both young and old. Accepting the fact that he’s gone now is a hard pill to swallow after growing up with him, the franchise and the iconic role that he played in it for over 40 years. In spite of all the melancholy, I still am grateful. Grateful for all of the happy memories and grateful for the opportunity to meet Optimus and see how wonderful Peter was as a person .
Till all are one.
